How Has This Changed in Comparison to the First Map?

Here you can see, that a number of services have changed places. Some of the most notable are Snapchat, Instagram, Youtube and Netflix. Previously I was using these frequently but by reflecting on how I used these services, I have tried to limit my time on these, focused more on professional based services, such as the new additions Trello and Piktochart. My use of communication services has not changed as I continue to use these to talk to my peers and parents. Certain professional based services have shifted, including Linkedin. I have started to use this more often, and have found a number of different companies to look into for future employment opportunities. 

 

 

What Does This Show?

My second Visitor and Resident map shows how I have started to change my relationship with technology. By assessing how I used these services in my first map, I could begin to change aspects of my usage I found wasteful. This is evident through an increase in my use of services such as Trello and Piktochart. I highly enjoy exploring and using these services, from both a professional and personal position. In the future, I hope to create another map in order to track if my relationship with these services has changed and reflect on usage. 

 

Why is this Important?

It is important to compare and evaluate each Visitor and Resident map in order to assess how I am using my services. By becoming aware of how I am using each service I am increasing my chances of changing this behaviour if I am unhappy with it. Without creating a map I would not have realised how much I used social media apps in comparison to other services. Through this process, I was able to limit social media usage, taking control of how I used technology and influencing the relationship I have with it. The importance here lies in becoming self-aware of your place within a technological world. Understanding how it affects you is the first step towards influencing its effect and impact on your life, for the better or worse.
