PRESENT

Below you will find a link to my reflective report. Here I have critically assessed my digital portfolio and use of technology. Throughout you will find references back to this website as well as links to what I have learned during the module.

Below I have also included a link to an essay as well as a number of books revolving around human's relationship with technology that I have found particularly interesting.

In the midst of personal data breaches and political figures becoming active Twitter users, the effect of technology on society and the individual is becoming a growing concern. Although this is a short read, the concepts Bartlett explores are complex, yet he manages to make them compelling and easy to understand. Reading a book that explores how technology is impacting politics is contemporary and refreshing after so many books centred around technologies effect on the individual. If you are looking for answers to current events from an interdisciplinary perspective then reading this is a must.

Exploring current technological trends from AI to transportation, Kelly delves into a range of technology, tracing their origins and development throughout history. Exploring large corporations such as Amazon and Google and how they are integrating and developing technology is incredibly informative, particularly when these devices are being reconfigured in order to be implemented into the average household. Although a very optimistic book, with certain sections, not in-depth enough or disagreeable, this is an interesting read and one very much focused on the future.

Virtual Worlds, written in the 1990s when virtual reality was new and popular, delves into the difference between reality and simulation. Exploring the history of computers, the theoretical concepts and construction of the virtual world, Woolley offers predictions of the future uses of technology. Reading this in the present day is extremely interesting, as a number of debates are still relevant today. Indeed, Woolley's predictions offer a glance into the past of how technology was being viewed and interpreted. However, the most interesting aspect of this book inquires into virtual reality's development, questioning whether reality is being created or we are simply losing our grip on it.
